Restricted Free Agents:
Restricted free agents are players with expired contracts and the owner has decided to put a "TAG" on that player. There are two TAG designations that an owner has an opportunity to use to keep a player with an expired contract. There are two TAG designations that give every GM a chance to bid on players, but if they win that player at auction, they must compensate the owner according to the TAG designation. TAGs are described at length in their own board.
Unrestricted Free Agents:
When a player's contract expires at the end of the season and that player is not protected by ACE or either of the Franchise Tags, that player is unrestricted and may be bid on during the Auction. Original owner has the opportunity to match any bid and does not need to raise nor does the original owner need to introduce a player that was on his team. If no other GM introduces a player on another franchise, the original may then sign that player to any length contract under or at the 75 year cap.
IMPORTANT!
We will only be bidding on players with expired contracts that were on a team at the end of the season. Any free agent player not on a team can only be obtained during the Rookie/Free Agent Draft.
